Ranger the Very large breed

About Ranger

Ranger is a beautiful pup, with very interesting colouring, slightly wiry fur and a curly tail (terrier genes?). He is a very gentle and slightly cautious puppy. Ranger likes to check things out before throwing himself in to a situation and sometimes watches the goings on from under the couch or a corner somewhere; near the action but not central to it. Ranger enjoys playing with his brother and foster brother but is not overlyrough and tumble. Ranger has a gentle mouth and takes treats very nicely. Ranger loves to cuddle and give kisses and also loves to have his belly rubbed. He is a clever dog and is picking up basic obedience commands quite quickly. Ranger is not yet housebroken, which is expected at his age, but does his business outside several times a day and the rest will come with time. Ranger is a thirsty dog and with his wiry coat, he has a beard that, while very cute, collects water and drips on the floor. Add a bit of dirt on his paws and you have muddy footprints pretty much every day. If this would drive you crazy, this is not the dog for you. Ranger sleeps in a crate at night and, although he whines for a few minutes after the door closes, he settles down and is clean for about 7 hours now. Ranger has also embraced walking on a harness, and he is full of energy and very curious about other dogs he sees and hears on our walks. Ranger is very dog friendly and would do very well with another dog in the house. He hasn’t been exposed to cats yet, but at his young age he would quite likely adapt well to a feline family member. Ranger will make a loving and loyal companion for a household that will embrace his slightly shy nature and allow him the space to join in activities at his own pace.

Surrenders

Here at Rosie Animal Adoption, we understand that the decision to give up a family pet is not always an easy one and that the dog's best interests are always of paramount importance. Whether you have a family pet or a stray to surrender, please be aware that there are many unscrupulous people who are always on the lookout for unaltered dogs to breed strictly for profit. Dogs kept for this purpose, be it by a “backyard breeder” or “puppy miller,” are usually kept in inhumane conditions that are worse than you can imagine. We get many calls from people who are “in a hurry” to re-home their dogs, claiming that they simply cannot wait. With the increasing number of homeless dogs in the province of Quebec , our resources are always stretched to the limit and we do not always have immediate openings. We would ask that you please be patient when contacting our volunteers to surrender a dog.

We will do our best to help you as quickly as we can, and may also be able to refer you to another group that we are affiliated with, but the most important message here is to proceed very cautiously if you are giving away or selling your dog to someone who may be portraying a private individual. The best thing you can do is to be sure to have your pet spayed or neutered and the worse thing you can do is offer an unaltered pet “free to a good home.” We have seen what can happen. Hit by a car at 8 weeks old

How could this happen? An 8 week old pup being hit by a car. This sadly happens often when dogs are allowed loose. Little Hunter arrived by plane Wednesday night and went straight to DMV, Lachine. We didn’t know how bad his injuries were. As soon as he arrived he was examined by a emergency Veterinarian. His digits were crushed and his arm was already badly infected. Bacteria had already set in and his little arm was extremely swollen. After being examined by Dr Gatineau, we were told that the digits could not be repaired and his arm needed to be amputated to save his life from the bacterial Infection. Yesterday little Hunter became 3 legged pup. Not the best for a dog but he is alive. He has been in ICU and being treated diligently with antibiotics. Now he learns to walk on 3 legs but his expenses are very highly! This was a very difficult surgery because of the infection. We now again faced with a very high bill of over $3,500. Hunter is still at DMV! Today August 25 he is hanging on and a lot more comfortable. Pls consider donating to help us with littl Hunter’s medical bills.
