Poppy the Terrier-pug mix

About Poppy

Poppy has come a long way in her weeks with her foster family. She is much more at ease with new people, warming up to them very quickly. She has learned that the bathroom is outdoors and has had very few accidents in recent weeks. Her introduction to dog food took some time but she now relishes her bowl of dog food and is no trouble at all to feed. Her confidence has soared and she runs around barking happily when she wants something or is excited. Evenings she loves to cuddle on the couch and watch TV!

Poppy is a 5 year old Terrier Pug X (guesstimate) that comes from a hoarder. She was not trained or socialized with people at all. Initially extremely nervous and shaking, she warmed up to her foster within 24 hours and follows her everywhere. She craves attention and does not like to be left alone. She would greatly benefit to be with a family that has someone home for the majority of the day. She is good with other dogs but now seems to prefer human company over dogs and would be fine as the only dog. A real picky eater she is learning to eat dog food (kibble) but much prefers eating people food which seems to be what she is used to. Toilet training is coming along very slowly but she has learned to use the pee pad when in the house. Patience and persistence will be required to get her fully trained. New people in her life will need to be introduced slowly and she will soon learn that new people are a good thing!

Surrenders

Here at Rosie Animal Adoption, we understand that the decision to give up a family pet is not always an easy one and that the dog's best interests are always of paramount importance. Whether you have a family pet or a stray to surrender, please be aware that there are many unscrupulous people who are always on the lookout for unaltered dogs to breed strictly for profit. Dogs kept for this purpose, be it by a “backyard breeder” or “puppy miller,” are usually kept in inhumane conditions that are worse than you can imagine. We get many calls from people who are “in a hurry” to re-home their dogs, claiming that they simply cannot wait. With the increasing number of homeless dogs in the province of Quebec , our resources are always stretched to the limit and we do not always have immediate openings. We would ask that you please be patient when contacting our volunteers to surrender a dog.

We will do our best to help you as quickly as we can, and may also be able to refer you to another group that we are affiliated with, but the most important message here is to proceed very cautiously if you are giving away or selling your dog to someone who may be portraying a private individual. The best thing you can do is to be sure to have your pet spayed or neutered and the worse thing you can do is offer an unaltered pet “free to a good home.” We have seen what can happen.
