Love the Bernese Mountain Dog

About Love

Love (pronounced Lovie) is a three year old Bernese Mountain Dog. She is as beautiful and sweet as you’d expect.

She came from a home that had many dogs, so she does get along with all dogs, and so far has seemed indifferent to cats, although we haven’t seen her in very close contact with them. (She ignored one running right under her nose!)

She is clean in the house and enjoys the family routine. In the morning, she bounces with joy out into the yard and back in to start the day.

She walks very well on leash, at a perfect heel position, but she needs a martingale collar as she is very skittish and if frightened, might try to get out of a regular collar.

Her skittishness is also evident in the home as she is easily startled by loud noises or sudden movements. She has gotten better over time in her foster’s home, but a loud boisterous home may stress her.

She is very affectionate and lives for pats and kind words and just want to cuddle and be near people. She really just wants to be loved and will give it back a hundredfold.

If you think you have room for a big old hairy ball of love, apply for Love! We will only contact the right match!

Adoptions

If you adopt from Rosie, your dog will be vet checked, vaccinated for DHPP and Rabies (if the dog is over 4 months), given a treatment for fleas and parasites as well as spayed or neutered before adoption. Our adoption fee is $400 and $300 for dogs of 8 years old and older.

Surrenders

Here at Rosie Animal Adoption, we understand that the decision to give up a family pet is not always an easy one and that the dog's best interests are always of paramount importance. Whether you have a family pet or a stray to surrender, please be aware that there are many unscrupulous people who are always on the lookout for unaltered dogs to breed strictly for profit. Dogs kept for this purpose, be it by a “backyard breeder” or “puppy miller,” are usually kept in inhumane conditions that are worse than you can imagine. We get many calls from people who are “in a hurry” to re-home their dogs, claiming that they simply cannot wait. With the increasing number of homeless dogs in the province of Quebec , our resources are always stretched to the limit and we do not always have immediate openings. We would ask that you please be patient when contacting our volunteers to surrender a dog.

We will do our best to help you as quickly as we can, and may also be able to refer you to another group that we are affiliated with, but the most important message here is to proceed very cautiously if you are giving away or selling your dog to someone who may be portraying a private individual. The best thing you can do is to be sure to have your pet spayed or neutered and the worse thing you can do is offer an unaltered pet “free to a good home.” We have seen what can happen.
