Holly shih Tzu Female born Oct 8, 2021 - blind Good with dogs: Holly needs a well balanced dog Cat: probably not a good idea because of her blindness Kids: Adult home Weight: 3 lbs

IMPORTANT NOTE: we sought advice from a Veterinarian who is also an Canine and Feline Behaviourist.

Holly female, brown and black. Holly is an 11-week-old female special-needs Shih Tzu puppy. She was born blind, or nearly so, Rosie will have her evaluated soon to see if there is any sight or any chance to improve her sight. She is playful and affectionate and adorable, as you would expect. Just given her size (about one kilo right now and only about 8 cm tall) she is fragile and needs particular care as she cannot see dangers in her way. Her family will have to always be vigilant about keeping her path in their home clear and predictable, now and always, because she will learn her home well and navigate it expertly, as long as it is safe and free of unexpected obstacles or dangers. For instance, stairs will have to be blocked, and given her tiny size, even railings should be blocked as she can easily fit through and have a dangerous fall. A potential family needs to see their home from her perspective to evaluate if their home is a match for Holly. Holly should also ideally have another dog with her to guide her and teach her but also one who is well adjusted and sociable and patient. Holly is a pup who wants to play and bite a bit, will bump into your dog and she’ll also want to cuddle your dog. A blind dog can seem daunting, and a family should take her care seriously, but a blind dog is also blind to their shortcomings and will enjoy life fully and explore and be as brave as her environment is safe. If you feel you have a home and family life suitable for Holly, let us know.

Her adoption fee is $750. $200. Will be reimbursed following her spay at 5 months without exception.

Surrenders

Here at Rosie Animal Adoption, we understand that the decision to give up a family pet is not always an easy one and that the dog's best interests are always of paramount importance. Whether you have a family pet or a stray to surrender, please be aware that there are many unscrupulous people who are always on the lookout for unaltered dogs to breed strictly for profit. Dogs kept for this purpose, be it by a “backyard breeder” or “puppy miller,” are usually kept in inhumane conditions that are worse than you can imagine. We get many calls from people who are “in a hurry” to re-home their dogs, claiming that they simply cannot wait. With the increasing number of homeless dogs in the province of Quebec , our resources are always stretched to the limit and we do not always have immediate openings. We would ask that you please be patient when contacting our volunteers to surrender a dog.

We will do our best to help you as quickly as we can, and may also be able to refer you to another group that we are affiliated with, but the most important message here is to proceed very cautiously if you are giving away or selling your dog to someone who may be portraying a private individual. The best thing you can do is to be sure to have your pet spayed or neutered and the worse thing you can do is offer an unaltered pet “free to a good home.” We have seen what can happen.
