April the Min Pin

About April

April is a compassionate adoption.

April is a 7 year old Miniature Pinscher that arrived at Rosie's from a commercial breeder. Her sweetness and vulnerability will melt your heart. She has had a rough start and is overcoming some major surgery. She is on the mend and will need plenty of TLC. She is very affectionate and will want to be with you all the time. She is very curious and playful and loves her squeekies. Everything is still new to her and so you need to be patient. She has learned to climb stairs and is still working on being clean in the house. She loves going for walks. She has some anxiety and cannot be left alone for long periods. She would do best in a home with an older couple where someone will be home most of the time. Adult home and another small gentle dog to show her the ropes would be ideal. No apartment or condo as she will bark when you leave. A fenced backyard is a must as she startles easily because she is blind in one eye. She has cataracts. She does have dry eye. Optimmune Ophthalmic Ointment is a sterile eye ointment containing cyclosporine, which helps to treat keratoconjunctivitis sicca (KCS or dry eye) in dogs. She also requires tear gel every day. She will make someone very happy with loving winning ways.

Surrenders

Here at Rosie Animal Adoption, we understand that the decision to give up a family pet is not always an easy one and that the dog's best interests are always of paramount importance. Whether you have a family pet or a stray to surrender, please be aware that there are many unscrupulous people who are always on the lookout for unaltered dogs to breed strictly for profit. Dogs kept for this purpose, be it by a “backyard breeder” or “puppy miller,” are usually kept in inhumane conditions that are worse than you can imagine. We get many calls from people who are “in a hurry” to re-home their dogs, claiming that they simply cannot wait. With the increasing number of homeless dogs in the province of Quebec , our resources are always stretched to the limit and we do not always have immediate openings. We would ask that you please be patient when contacting our volunteers to surrender a dog.

We will do our best to help you as quickly as we can, and may also be able to refer you to another group that we are affiliated with, but the most important message here is to proceed very cautiously if you are giving away or selling your dog to someone who may be portraying a private individual. The best thing you can do is to be sure to have your pet spayed or neutered and the worse thing you can do is offer an unaltered pet “free to a good home.” We have seen what can happen.
